We all know some shitty models . But just as the title says? What are some good versions or trims of shitty models? My vote goes to the Saturn Ion Redline. Same car ass the Cobalt SS but never got the same love. Some people dont even know it exists.

I had both an ION and a Redline. Nailed it with that example. The ION was just a piece of transportation. Pretty slow, cheap interior, blah styling. The Redline was pretty quick, the black interior and Recaro's made the inside a much nicer place to live, and the styling was certainly interesting, if not pretty.

But they had functional Cowl Induction!

I drove an Ion Red Line at a GM promotion once. It was frightening and awesome. I'd buy one in a second.

2nd Gen Cobalt SS turbo!
All the problems and reputation of the normal Cobalt, just with better handling and 260hp!

I would too. Found one for 5 grand yesterday. Just worried about getting teased for driving a Saturn

I bet all of 6 people bought this. Probably all white fleet cars too.

This is an excellent sleeper. Not many people know how fast these things really are. I almost bought one off of eBay back in 09.

You gotta own the teasing. #teamrecall #plasticfantastic #minicorvette and such.
I have a friend who owns a red-line. A rare, and weird one. It's definitely a red-line, but it has the 2.4 L N/A. All it's had done to it is a Borla exhaust system, and it's making ~185 HP. Very peppy little car, and quad-coupe format is awesome.

Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. This was the 2nd one I've owned. The regular GPs can be seen with blown out rear suspension, missing original wheels (or hubcaps on base models) and torn to pieces by drivers who don't know how to drive. They have terrible transmissions and front suspension issues and are also susceptible to GM plastic interior warpage.
But, these little babies took the 3800 which is known to be bulletproof and with nearly minimal editing, add a supercharger. Yes it's FWD, yes it's the size of a land yacht, and yes most of them were 4-doors (both of mine were 2-doors). But honestly, these are fun, they move and with a little modding, they get scary fast quick!

one of the fastest sedans you could buy in north America in 1991, second only to the M5! It most likely be my next toy car I get

Oh he has the one that was basically an appearance package. Chevy did the same thing with the Cobalt and the non supercharged SS versions which looked the part but didn't go.

The Ion, however, is plastic-bodied. Only the hood and trunk-lid are steel. I think the Cobalt is entirely steel, except for the bumpers. So it has a better power-to-weight. Against a supercharged Redline with only a similar exhaust modification, his car is quicker (but not faster).
If nothing else, though, he got it in the right color: Laser Blue.

Because turbos make pretty much everything better, even unredeemably shite lumps such as the PT Cruiser cabrio.
